1. It asks for money before you’re hired
No legitimate employer will ever ask you to pay for training materials, a "starter kit," or a background check before you’ve been hired. If a posting mentions any upfront fee, treat it as a hard stop.
2. It involves depositing a check and sending money back
This is one of the most common scams: you’re "hired," sent a check to buy equipment, and asked to wire back the difference. The check later bounces, and you’re out the money you sent. Real employers buy your equipment themselves or reimburse you after the fact, never before.
3. It asks for sensitive information too early
Your Social Security number, bank details, or a copy of your ID should never be requested before an offer is made and verified. A real hiring process asks for this after you’ve accepted a role, not during the application.
4. Communication only happens over chat apps
If a "recruiter" insists on moving the entire conversation to WhatsApp, Telegram, or a similar app instead of a company email address, that’s a red flag. Legitimate recruiters use verifiable company domains.
